This business wants to expand into the U.S. market specifically targeting communities from El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua.

What you will be doing:

Founded in 1974, this business offers traditional funeral and burial services, and provides quality of life services and insurance (including for health, car, home, pet). The business has operations in El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua under three separate well-recognized brands.

The leadership team wants to expand into the U.S. market specifically targeting communities from El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua for the purchase of services for family members living in those countries of origin. The business is looking to identify a business model develop a market entry strategy for the U.S.

As a Bpeace volunteer Skillanthropist, you will use your go-to-market and strategy experience to:

  • Analyze prior attempts at U.S. market entry, current service offerings, and their target market and advise on appropriate business models for U.S. market entry.
  • Help the leadership team develop a roadmap for market entry, including determining entry phases, pros/cons of establishing a U.S. office, product mix and pricing strategy, and staffing needs.
  • Advise on the development of a communications strategy including how to build visibility among their target audience, determining the right messaging and most effective sales channels (particularly digital media and platforms).

The impact of your work will help the business break into a new market so they can continue to create jobs that provide dignity as well as economic stability to their workers and community as a powerful alternative to violence.

Over the course of three months you will:

  • Validate needs with the business and draft a scope of work. Bpeace staff will facilitate the initial conversations between you and your “client.”
  • Provide approximately 4 days of remote consulting advice delivered via weekly Zoom calls of approximately 2 hours each (preferably the same day/time each week), based on a schedule agreed upon between you and the business.
  • On the final call, develop a Forward Action Plan in collaboration with the business with clear next steps.

More jobs are critical in El Salvador right now to help stem the flow of irregular migration. Small and medium businesses account for 60% of the economy. Steady employment provides legitimate alternatives for Salvadorans who would otherwise migrate or pursue illegal activities and gangs. Your advice and expertise will help these businesses create jobs and build a stable future for their workers and communities.
