“The rewards of volunteering extend far beyond professional achievements. Feeling empowered to make a meaningful difference and forging connections with fellow volunteers and businesses have enriched my life in profound ways.” —Lisa Bowers

Intrigued by the prospect of making a difference, Lisa Bowers decided to join Bpeace after being inspired by friend and board member Liz Wald. Reflecting on her journey, Lisa shares that she had been reading Liz’s annual letters for a few years and was inspired by her stories of helping smaller businesses with various challenges.

From on-site engagements in El Salvador to virtual collaborations, Lisa worked closely with businesses like Insema, El Salvador’s largest recycling center. As she recounts, “I can’t think of an actual work experience where I’ve had more fun developing strategies and programs to help a company grow.” Lisa also lent her expertise to businesses in Guatemala, working with a retailer in the Pradera Impulsa program to help jump-start its ESG strategy and sustainability journey.

Lisa’s dedication to sustainability was exemplified through her involvement in Bpeace’s first Climate Roundtable. “Climate change will significantly affect the operations of every business, including resilience, supply chain issues, regulatory compliance and the demands of consumers and investors,” she says. “The impact of climate change is particularly severe on developing economies.” Lisa emphasizes the urgency of setting up Bpeace clients to successfully combat climate change and integrate sustainability into all aspects of their business. She believes that the sooner this is achieved, the better off these businesses will be in facing the challenges ahead.

As a volunteer, Lisa has found immense personal fulfillment. “The rewards of volunteering extend far beyond professional achievements,” she says. “Feeling empowered to make a meaningful difference and forging connections with fellow volunteers and businesses have enriched my life in profound ways.”

She also appreciates the flexibility of being a Bpeace Skillanthropist. Even people with only an hour, an hour a week for a month or two, or even one week every few years for on-site in-country engagements, can make a meaningful difference.
