From Antigua, Guatemala, to Sarasota, Florida.

Founded by Lola and Maggie, with Victoria as the General Manager and Tatiana leading new project development, Fridas is the first Mexican restaurant-bar in Antigua, Guatemala.

Inspired by the great Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, Fridas has been the trendy place to eat and drink for 22 years, and Maggie, Lola, Victoria and Tatiana were ready to franchise their success and exponentially create more jobs.

Enter Bpeace. One of our board directors arranged an intensive week-long apprenticeship with Daiquiri Deck, a fast-growing casual restaurant chain in South Florida. Daiquiri Deck’s Russell Matthes immersed Lola, Maggie, Victoria and Tatiana in workshops on menu design, staff training, operations, marketing strategies, a business plan review and hands-on experience at several Daiquiri Deck locations.

Within a few days of their return home, 4,000 Guatemalans were forced to evacuate and business came to a halt. But resilience triumphed. Since their Florida apprenticeship, Lola, Maggie and Tatiana have moved forward aggressively and are in early negotiations with two franchisors. Despite the 2018 volcano eruption, they've grown revenue by 24% and employment by 45% since entering the Bpeace program.
