Laurie Chock
Bpeace Chair, Board director since 2006
Filmmaker and Communications Consultant

"My involvement with Bpeace has meant I am no longer a spectator--I take an active role in promoting peace in the world."

Laurie's professional life pivots between two related fields: media/presentations skills coaching with her firm, Chock Global Communications, and filmmaking with her production company, Three Graces Productions. The experience she brings to both forms of communication is as an actress, radio and television news reporter, and as a producer and director of documentaries.

In her role as a communications coach, she works one-on-one or in small groups with executives whose incomes depend on effective communications. Her clients are in varied industry sectors: financial services, insurance, publishing, healthcare, technology, fashion, advertising, nonprofit and higher education. She works both in the executive suite and with employees earmarked for growth. Laurie's strengths are in her ability help mold the message, to identify core communications points, and guide her clients toward effectively communicating those messages. She does not use a boilerplate approach, but dips into her deep well of experience and intuitively chooses the appropriate methods for each client, since no two clients are alike.

As a filmmaker, Laurie’s approach is to take audiences into untraveled, street-level terrain. Her documentaries include Thread (based on her work with Bpeace), the story of five Afghan women who are determined to transform their survival skills into flourishing businesses; and Ironbound Ties to Portugal, about a little-known Portuguese community in the vibrant heart of Newark, New Jersey. Laurie sees big stories in the often overlooked dramas of everyday life.
